Overview

Lawar Kuwir Men Koko stands as a glowing example of authentic Balinese cuisine nestled in the heart of Tibubeneng, Kuta Utara, Bali. This unassuming eatery on Jl. Raya Canggu offers a culinary experience deeply rooted in tradition, making it a haven for those seeking genuine local flavors away from the usual tourist trails.

The centerpiece here is unquestionably the Nasi Lawar Kuwir — a rich, fragrant rice dish cooked in coconut milk mixed with tender duck meat. It balances complexity and comfort in every bite, with a spice level that is approachable yet layered with aromatic herbs, making it ideal for both Balinese food enthusiasts and curious newcomers. The lawar itself is a meticulous blend, marrying textures and spices that tell a story of Balinese heritage. Complementing the main dish are favorites like Sate Lilit and Kerang Bakar (grilled shellfish), which add variety without overwhelming the palate.

What makes Men Koko exceptional is not just its food but also the atmosphere it fosters. The restaurant’s spacious layout overlooks serene rice fields, offering a tranquil dining environment uncommon in the bustling Canggu area. This makes it a perfect spot for diners who wish to enjoy a peaceful meal surrounded by nature’s calm, enhancing the connection to Balinese culture through both sight and taste.

Visitors praise Men Koko for its sincerity in preserving halal Balinese dishes, a rarity in the region. It is a place appreciated by locals and travelers alike who value authenticity and simplicity. Practical considerations like clear pricing and ample parking further elevate the experience, especially in an area where such conveniences can be scarce.

The accompanying herbal soup, often served alongside, and the refreshing Es Kelapa Muda (young coconut water) round out the meal, ensuring a well-balanced feast. Some have noted subtle nuances, such as the soup being a touch salty or occasionally encountering small bones, but these quirks only affirm the use of genuine, fresh ingredients prepared with care.

In essence, Lawar Kuwir Men Koko transcends being just a restaurant; it is a cultural landmark showcasing the rich flavors and warm spirit of Bali. Whether you are a foodie on the hunt for authentic Balinese tastes or a traveler seeking solace in the calm countryside ambiance, this gem promises an honest and fulfilling dining experience.

For those exploring Bali’s culinary landscape, Men Koko offers a meaningful connection to the island’s culinary roots, made accessible through its welcoming space and devoted approach to traditional dishes.

Close from home but not sure to try and finally I tried because ‘lawar daun belimbing’. It’s turn out ao good. Lawar pisah make me so fulfill. Meet my expectation. The soup is little bit salty. If you come with car, don’t worry, Men Koko not typically Canggu spot with no parking lot. Love it!

One of the best last remaining Balinese restaurant in the sea of cultural onslaught in Canggu. A true gem that serves halal Balinese cuisine. Lawar kuwir, a complex and intricate dish that uses duck as its base plus a mix of spices. Served complete with jukut ares soup (banana trunk) and sate lilit. Cheap and delicious. 35k for large portion + 15k of fresh young coconut. My go to whenever I visit Canggu.

The food was ultra delicious, but one of the dishes were full of tiny bones. Beware. Nice enough ambience if you sit in the back so you can look out over the rice fields. Prices are clearly displayed so there should be no confusion.
